2. New to hockey

The Ontario Hockey Federation has an excellent website for parents that are new to hockey.

It outlines the basic rules of ice hockey, benefits of playing hockey, and what equipment is needed.  http://www.ohf.on.ca/new-hockey

4. Competitive Tryouts

Important:

I remind all players who plan to attend competitive tryouts that you must be registered with APMHA before the start of the tryouts to enable you to be “cleared” for the tryouts (this is an ODMHA and Hockey Canada Requirement). Upon successful placement in a competitive team- the APMHA fees you have paid (minus the late payment fee if applicable) will be transferred to the competitive association who will then invoice you the balance.

We wish all our competitive players the best in their tryouts with the various teams!

Mississippi Thunder Kings - MTK (Rep B)

  • The Tryouts will be run at the Carleton Place and Pakenham arenas from September 11th to September 16th and will also include away games.
  • To participate in the tryouts, you should have indicated this in your APMHA on-line registration – walk-ons are accepted but pre-registration is really appreciated for logistical reason. If you are not sure if you have registered or not for MTK tryouts, please contact Bruce Lowe mtk.rep@apmha.org

5. Coach and Player Development

- Coach Applications

- Checking vs non Checking

  • The LCMHL has voted for all Peewee B team to be Non- checking this year. Peewee A will remain checking. We have currently enough player for a Peewee B non checking team based on the info collected upon registration. Placement for a Peewee A Checking or another Peewee B non-checking will be determined during Team sortout (once we have also the results from the MTK Peewee B).
  • At the Bantam level, we have a number of players who have indicated that they would be interested to play Bantam B Non-checking but at this time we do not have enough to make a team. We are looking at various options and with our neighboring association (importing players – or exporting players) however if your son or daughter would like to play non checking and you have not indicated so yet – please contact our registrar  reg.coordinator@apmha.org so that your information can be updated.

- Peewee Checking Clinic

The clinic will be run again this year by Pat Malloy, Director of Hockey Programming and Head Instructor of Peak Performance and Elite Hockey (Checking Clinic on Sept 15th). Pat is a former Coach and Director of Player Development in the Central Junior "A" Hockey League and has Tier II Junior "A" playing experience along with "Speak Out" Program Certification with Hockey Canada.
Pat is currently an Associate Coach with the Ottawa Jr. Senators CJHL Junior "A".

Our Peewee Coaches will be also participating in this clinic so that they can take on some valuable information and drills and apply to their following practices.

- Goalie Clinic
