2009-2010 LCMHL PLAYOFFS --- IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Coaches - Manager: Please read all playoffs information in this article. Any questions should be directed to the APMHA Director of House Programs (Gord MacIntyre) at dir.house.league@apmha.org

Ø      Seeding date to determine playoff format is Sunday January 31, 2010 regardless of re-scheduled games still to be played.

Ø      First Round of playoffs to commence on Friday February 19, 2010 through to Friday March 12, 2010 inclusive.

Ø      No playoffs games shall be played through the March Break from Saturday March 13, 2010 to Saturday March 20, 2010 inclusive.

Ø      Final Round of playoffs to resume Sunday March 21, 2010 to Wednesday March 31, 2010.

 

The playoffs format is indicated below – however it was decided and voted at the last LCMHL meeting (January 12- 2010) the following changes for this 2009-2010 hockey season and for the benefits of the players.

PLAYOFFS LCMHL

FIRST ROUND        Round Robin      ---    all teams involved
  • i)         7 teams or less = one pool
  • ii)       8 to 14 teams two pools (Pool 1 = odd teams; Pool 2 = even teams)
  • iii)      15 or more teams formats to be determined by the league no later than the December meeting.
  • iv)      The League may at its January meeting decide to split playoff divisions into a finalist division and a runner-up division.

Regular Point System. Winner of pool is determined by most points. No overtime. In the event of ties at the end of Round One placement is determined by:

  • i)         Most wins in round robin play.
  • ii)       Win/loss record between the teams involved in round robin play. 
  • iii)      Difference between the total goals for and against in round robin play.
  • iv)      Total goals scored for in round robin play.
  • v)        Standings at the end of the regular season.

 

 

FINAL ROUND       Four Point Series
  • i)         Winner Pool 1 vs. Winner Pool 2 - top 2 teams if only 1 pool
  • ii)    In divisions where there are finalist and consolation groupings - the top two teams in each Division advance.
  • iii)   Home ice advantage (2 games, not necessarily the 1st game) goes to the team that placed higher in the Regular Season Standings.
  • iv)      First team to reach 4 points wins, maximum 4 games.
  • v)       3rd and 4th games: Host association must supply 2 hours (2&1/2 hours for Midget) for overtime.
  • vi)      OVERTIME is played in the 3rd and 4th games only.
  • vii)    Overtime is played if there is a tie at the end of regulation time and neither team has reached 4 points.
  • viii)   Teams will not change ends for overtime periods. Penalties will be served and do affect the number of players on the ice.
  • ix)   All overtime periods will be 5 minutes, stop time, sudden death.
         Period 4:  6 players (including the goalie)
         Period 5:  5 players (including the goalie)
         Period 6 and beyond:   4 players (including the goalie)
