Letter from John Miotla, APMHA Goalie parent and coordinator for this program:

As most of you are aware, I have been looking into the feasibility of running a Goalie Skills Development Program for our APMHA Goalies.

Based on the very positive interest from many of you, I was successful in engaging Goalie Specialist Gord MacFarlane and Dale Hein of Stellar Hockey to run a Goaltending Skills Development program exclusively for our APMHA goalies. The Almonte Pakenham Minor Hockey Association is graciously providing the ice to help keep the participant cost to a minimum.

Program Objectives and Structure:

 1. Provide intense yet fun, comprehensive and relevant goaltending instruction for Novice thru Midget levels.

 2. Refine the skills of the association’s goaltenders with current techniques and comprehensive skill development emphasizing edge control skating, proper stance, angles, rebound control, mobility and proper save selection and recovery.

 3. Give confidence to goaltenders and coaches that a consistent developmental instruction program is in place for their goaltenders to help hit team objectives.

 4. We believe the key to successful goaltending is skating.  All of our sessions include reinforcement of proper goaltending skating technique including edge control, C cuts, T-glide, and shuffle.  Progressively, skating skills are enhanced and save selection is introduced – butterfly,
half butterfly, blocker, trapper, stick saves, poke check, two pad slide, angles.  In addition, rebound control is always emphasized, no matter what save is being made.  Finally, puck handling skills are taught including stopping the puck behind the net and passing/clearing the puck.  The mental aspects of goaltending are also covered.  We recommend a 12 session
program be built to adequately cover and reinforce these items.

We need at least 8 Goalies registered for the program to go ahead so please register early.  The 1st session is less than 2 weeks away.

Thank you for your interest and I sincerely hope you take advantage of this cost effective program to help your Goalie develop under professional guidance.

 Regards,
 John Miotla
 Goalie Parent
